HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY

FRIDAY FAMILY NIGHT - 4/16/00:

Last Friday, we had two Amber's, two Patricia's, two Lou's and if Philbert had shown up, we would have had two Phil's! We had a bigger crowd from AES associates and friends than we did regulars again this week. I finally did hear from Ruthie. She is in the middle of training in L.A. for a new job. We hope she'll be by soon to tell us the details. When I got Philbert on the phone, he sounded like he was ready for some serious shut-eye. He had been on the road all afternoon, just like Tom, who had a couple of demos to do in Woodland Hills.

I suppose we should explain the "Daisy" situation from last week (and hope that Gwen isn't reading this). Last Sunday was a rather disappointing day. Our friends TJ and Rana brought over Gwen's pet rabbit for us to take care of because they are getting a German Shepard. Since they didn't think that Sheppy and Daisy would get along all that well, they figured Laura needed an Easter bunny. Well, no sooner had they left that a neighborhood cat sliced Daisy's eye and we had to take the poor bunny to the emergency animal hospital. Because the actual eye was injured, it was going to have to be removed to the tune of $250. Euthinasia cost $25. N'uff said.

Hey, just a quick reminder about a little family tradition we have on Easter Sunday. It's called the "Rights of Spring" and it goes something like this:

The "Rights of Spring" is a family tradition that started many generations ago. It is said that if the ceremony is performed correctly, there will be a mild summer. If done incorrectly, all hell will break loose. Therefore, only qualified individuals, such as Philbert, can over see the event to make sure that it is done correctly. We start with the sipping of the Scotch, which can only be held in the left hand while sipping. Just before 12:00pm, a Gin and tonic must be held in the right hand. At the stroke of noon, the Administrator will give the command. At this time all Scotch must be thrown over the left shoulder and sipping of the Gin and tonic will begin. One will not be allowed to touch Scotch to their lips until Thanksgiving (Rights of Fall) or the gates of hell will be flung open. Please refer to the weather that we had four years ago thanks to the mis-guided drinking of Gene in Roswell - known as the year of El Geeño. See you Sunday!

FRIDAY FAMILY NIGHT - 4/09/00:

Friday turned out to be the night of new members at Area 51. Not so much an initiation, but new people just the same. A few people from AES and a couple from IM came over and enjoyed the fresh batch of mai tais. We think that will keep them coming back. The ironic part was that only Luigi and Mongo were here to represent the "regulars". The interesting part was finding out some skuttle-butt about a couple of AES associates. Apparently, we were talking with the wrong people. It's the part-time receptionists that know the deal. Hey, you're welcome back ANYTIME! We attempted to have a BBQ but Luigi wound up cooking everything indoors. Pork ribs, steak, rice and pasta - oh, how we love Luigi. Perhaps we can execute a REAL BBQ next Friday? If you're coming, bring meat and buns for burgers and hot dogs.

You were going to meet Daisy, but Daisy met God first.

Saturday was the day of cell phones. We made two trips to the Airtouch store and Patty came away with her very own Audiovox phone and purple face plate for $20. What prompted this? Well, last week she put her old cell phone in her brief case and off she went to work. However, when Patty got there she realized she had grabbed the Area 51 cordless phone instead. Considering the old cell phone was actually heavier than the cordless and about the same size, it was apparent that a smaller, lighter cell phone was a necessity. When she hung the old cell phone on her belt loop, it nearly pulled her pants down. Not something you want to happen while working a trade show - although it may attract more traffic to the booth. Luigi got a new flip cell phone too. It's so small, he can palm it and you wouldn't know he was holding anything. Totally reminds me of those old Star Trek flippy things. "Beam me up, Scottie!"

...just don't love your pets!

FRIDAY FAMILY NIGHT - 4/02/00:

Last Friday, our old friend Todd from CSUF came by and brought a game he made: WordMaster. Yep. we said "made". It's only about a week and a half old and we were the first ones to put it to the test. It was quite an intriguing game that works a lot like scrabble, but it's a card game. Perhaps he will come back with other interesting games as well.

Monday, April 3rd, 2000: Jim Swendson, Hawaiian Airlines, Los Angeles to Honalulu. Return flight: Sunday, May 14th, Honalulu to Los Angeles.

Here we were thinking it's been kind of boring lately. The problem was, we didn't check our email. Come to find out, Matt Weiss is now a father! Cameron Monte Weiss was born on 3/19/00 at 8:36pm (same day as William Irwin). Cameron was born three weeks early but was 7 lbs, 4 oz and 20 inches long. Sounds pretty healthy to us! Matt tells me that Amy's labor was easy - sounds like something one might say when they were only witnessing the birth of a 7 pound baby. Congrats, Matt and Amy!

Michael & Kelly Luth have joined the cyber family. Yup, they have their own web site now and oh, is it a dandy! Come on - check it out: http://www.homestead.com/planetoh/planetoh.html

Last month, LivingPhotoAlbums.com was launched in England. This is the web site that Phil and his cousin schemed up while Phil was visiting last year. James would like to begin rolling out this site in the U.S. very soon and will be coming out to visit us this year. Just proves to show you that it doesn't take long to get a profitable site up and running and all it takes is a little brain juice and a lot of determination.

Area 51 is going to host Easter Egg Hunt 2000 this year. Brunch will begin at 10:30am and Mischa will be visiting from Sherman Oaks. Bring the kids! Bring their swimsuits! We'll have the pool pumped up and filled with refreshing water. Parents, family and friends will be required to sit and watch the children play in the back yard with a mimosa or virgin mimosa and relax. Leave the hosting to us. Mark your calendars: Sunday, April 23rd.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Submitted by Thedmo

"The major difference between a thing that might go wrong
and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that
when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong
it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair".
